Glass Bricks: Wall To Water

Wall to Water is a solid physical symbol of the urgency surrounding this most basic resource. An advertisement of necessity and an architecture of education, the wall calls to attention the lack of clean drinking water for many of the world's poor, as well as the importance of protecting our local water resources. My initial proposal is a free standing masonry wall in which each cinderblock contains a luminous painting of a glass of clean drinking water. Once the original work is presented in a public space, my hope is that the idea can be fabricated on an industrial scale on ceramic bricks suitable for urban outdoor public art. The walls will serve as a visually beautiful reminder to the world's urban affluent that convenience must sometimes give way to awareness and generosity. This project is in progress and the image is an artist's rendering. The project needs a home and a sponsor.
